Flame retardant is the application of flame retardant technology in real life. Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs), as a kind of flame retardants, are gradually being introduced into the environment. The environmental problems caused by them are increasingly being paid attention to by environmental scientists, and they have become another research hotspot of new organic pollutants.

Since OPFRs and polymers are not chemically bonded, FRS is easily released from the product into dust, air, soil and other environmental media. Many OPFRs are biologically toxic, and Cl-OPFRs are even carcinogenic.

Organic phosphate ester flame retardant structural formula

Since 2016, the Sichuan University research team has cooperated with Shimadzu Chengdu Analysis Center to study the OPFRs content and surrounding animals and people in water bodies, sediments, and aquatic organisms in a certain basin, bay and other regions. Relevant research results have been successfully published in "Journal of Hazardous Materials", "Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology", "Marine Pollution Bulletin" and other journals.

The qualitative and quantitative analysis of trace OPFRs in water bodies, sediments and aquatic organisms in the process of cooperative research all used Shimadzu triple quadrupole gas chromatography-mass spectrometer GCMS-TQ8050 NX. Due to the super fast speed, high sensitivity and the convenience of Shimadzu Smart database of GCMS-TQ8050 NX, it is more suitable for detecting extremely trace OPFRs in environmental samples or organisms.

In addition, the Smart Environmental database of Shimadzu's environmental database also includes the MRM information of brominated flame retardants, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins, organochlorine pesticides, etc., without the need to target target standard products , You can screen a variety of environmental pollutants in environmental samples; the database has built-in 6 pairs of ion pairs for each compound, and the analysis results are accurate and reliable.

Our published experiments analyzed the concentration of OPFRs in various environmental media samples including dust, air particulate matter (PM10), sea water, river water, and marine sediments. For OPFRs analysis, the sensitivity of the instrument is very high. The lowest point of the concentration of the experimental working curve we designed is 5ppb. GCMS-TQ8050 NX can meet the requirements well. At the same time, the stability of the instrument is also maintained at a high level. We continuously measure about 100 actual samples each time, and insert low-concentration (10ppb) and high-concentration (100ppb) standards between every 20 samples for quality control. Regardless of low concentration or high concentration, the recovery of quality control samples can reach more than 90%; GCMS-TQ8050NX can well meet the analysis requirements of OPFRs in the above environmental media.
